New York, NY - Welcome to a very special edition of the pro wrestling recap as we take a moment to celebrate the 600th episode of SmackDown. The Blue brand has always provided many special moments in the WWE, and at one point in time was doing very well in ratings.
It has taken them a while, and yes it may now be a show which tends to develop the younger lions. But I think the Blue Brand maybe back, even though it is hard to have an identity when Raw Superstars are invading your show.
As members of the WWE Universe may already know, Vince always loves to have certain stars cross over to see how they do. Especially without some of the vets on SmackDown to help push some of these other younger guys on the brand. There is still a lot of building left to do, but for now we celebrate.
To begin the night we have a huge 12-man tag team bout which features some of the brightest stars in the company. It would be the face team of: John Cena, Randy Orton, John Morrison, R-Truth, Rey Mysterio and Edge defeating the heel squad of C.M. Punk, ‘King’ Sheamus, Kane, Wade Barrett, Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre.
Former tag-team partners Rey Mysterio and Edge were able to pull out their dual finishing moves to knock off Ziggler and get the 1-2-3 victory for the good guys. In what would only be the beginning of the night for both Edge and Ziggler.
The two rivals would remain in the ring as ‘acting’ General Manager Vickie Guerrero fired the ‘Rated-R’ Superstar for the illegal spear that was used in last week’s bout. She also announced that young lion Ziggler would finally take his place among the great ones with a Championship Coronation later on in the night.
Maryse/Layla def. Divas Champion Eve/Beth Phoenix: Whatever momentum Eve had gained by defeating former Divas Champion Natalya last Monday hit a hitch with this loss. Of course the night would not be complete without the distraction from Michelle McCool-who continues to weaken her place in the women’s division.
Someone needs to tell McCool that we really don’t care if she is the Undertaker (true story) girlfriend. Sadly unlike Triple H she will never establish a reputation in the WWE by hanging on her boyfriends coattails (no matter how cool Takers are-lol). For once Michelle please set out on your own-prove to the world why you belong and show your athletic ability-I know you have it…. You know you have it….and yes the WWE Universe knows you have it. Believe it or not we really do want to see it okay-thanks.
WWE Champion The Miz def. Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston: Again I am a huge fan of the fact that The Miz is allowing/agreeing to wrestle some of the younger lions with the strap. It not only helps himself but it also helps out guys like Kingston who are trying to take it to the next level.
This match also served as a way for WWE’s hottest heel Alberto Del Rio to gain some momentum before his bout with Kingston at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. Del Rio provided the distraction that gave his fellow heel the victory-but you-you already knew that. I for one am looking forward to seeing Del Rio and Kingston go at it. If they can go the way they want too and tell their story it will be a five star match.
WWE Tag Team Champions Santino Marella/Vladimir Kozlov def. ‘Corre’ members Heath Slater/Justin Gabriel via disqualification: As yes the SmackDown version of the Nexus continues their ‘cheat to win’ mentality. Thankfully for the fans of the faces The Big Show came down to save the day and continues to build up what will hopefully (please) be a one-on-one bout with muscle Ezekiel Jackson (please-lol).
One maybe reading this and saying-why Stacy do you want to see Show and Jackson storyline so badly. And my response is-this is the perfect way to build up the reputation for ‘Zeke.’ He is a guy trying to show how strong and powerful he is. The only way to do that is a victory over The Big Show, and it would not only help him but -it would regretfully as much as I hate the storyline -help the Corre as a whole. Believe it or not this also -hopefully will some of the guys individually as well.
Then it was time to crown the young lion Dolph Ziggler as new heavyweight champion. Just as Ziggler was about to start the celebration with the coveted prize, holding the beautiful golden belt and proudly displaying it for the world to see. A look of shock on both Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero’s face would shortly follow as the return of the real General Manager Teddy Long would happen.
Long would come out and tell Ziggler that he would not have the strap for long, as it was revealed that the young lion was truly behind the attacks on the GM and there would be in fact a championship bout between Ziggler and the rehired Edge for later on that night.
Members of the WWE Universe then got to celebrate the 11th World Heavyweight Championship reign of the Rated-R Superstar as Edge was able to Spear his rival and re-gain the strap. For Ziggler he officially had the strap for about two seconds, which is the second shortest reign since Andre The Giant who had 30 seconds with the strap.
Sadly Ziggler would leave the show not only without his belt, but also without a job as he was fired by Long for the previous attacks. Don’t expect the young lion to be away for long as he will make a return to the ring very soon.
Also sincerest congrats goes out to Edge who is probably one of the harder working Superstars in the WWE. It was not that long ago that no one really took the Rated-R Superstar seriously; he then turned heel cut promos to make people hate him and became one of the top wrestlers of the company very-very quietly. Now he is very capable of walking that heel/face line that very few can walk.
Edge is just one of those guys who makes you believe-he had a dream to become the champion and how has held the strap 11 times along with many-many others, and is on his way to a Hall of Fame career. It just does a fan and fellow dreamer proud to see a guy like that do well. It makes you think-if he can do it so can you.
Now time to put a capper on the latest edition of your favorite pro wrestling recap. Hopefully everyone enjoys the three-day weekend as well as the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. I for one hope it is a good one on Sunday-as sometimes the shows leading up to WrestleMania tend to disappoint fans. Here is hoping that WWE Creative can think of a good storyline to build up to that big pay-per-view, stay tuned everyone!!
